Meet Chiwi! This handsome 3-year-old, 11-pound Chihuahua mix may be small in stature, but he's got a big personality, a playful spirit, and a mischievous streak that's guaranteed to keep you entertained!
Chiwi is an independent little guy who prefers to take his time getting to know new people. He's not one to rush into a relationship, but give him a little patience, understanding, and room to settle in, and you'll discover what a sweet, fun-loving companion he can be!
And did we mention this boy LOVES to play fetch? Chiwi is fast, enthusiastic, and always ready for another round! He'll happily chase down his favorite toys and bring them back, although he's been known to add his own twist to the game by turning fetch into a spirited round of keep-away! Apparently, Chiwi believes the rules are merely suggestions, and he's happy to rewrite them whenever the mood strikes!
He's also a smart little cookie who knows basic commands, including sit, and has lovely leash manners. Chiwi enjoys exploring the world around him, but he's thoughtful about checking in frequently with his handler, just to make sure you're still enjoying the adventure together.
And while Chiwi certainly appreciates his independence, he's also a fan of some good old-fashioned snuggling! One of his most adorable habits is burrowing completely under the covers when it's time to sleep, leaving nothing but the tiniest tip of his nose peeking out. Who needs a stuffed animal when you've got an 11-pound Chihuahua tucked into bed beside you?
When it comes to sharing his home, Chiwi has decided he'd prefer to be the one and only canine apple of your eye. He's looking for a family where he can be the only dog, and if there are children in the home or grandchildren who visit frequently, he'll do best with kids ages 14 and older. Also, Chiwi will need a home with a yard of his own.
Chiwi isn't looking for someone to sweep him off his feet on the first date. He's looking for someone who will let a friendship blossom at his pace, appreciate his independent streak, enjoy his playful antics, and understand that sometimes the best relationships begin with a little patience and a good game of fetch!

No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)!
Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In the event there is more than one home interested in the same animal, a lottery may be held that will include all families that are at our adoption center at the time we open the day the animal becomes available. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member.
